A Cutting-Edge of Electric Technology and A Hybrid Performance, the iRacer

As you may know, the British sports car manufacturer Westfield has developed a new project. The iRacer – that’s the brand name of its first electric sports car – is aimed to be used on the race track only. The iRacer was considered to be a common project of the Westfield Sportscars and the Birmingham City University, School of Engineering, having the price tag from $21,000. We were surprised not to see the Apple as one of the iRacer delelopers, lol. The details of the electric race car kit have been recently confirmed by the maker. The car is expected to go on sale in Sweden.

Well-well, let’s inspect this British novelty. The track-focused performance of this vehicle arguably determinates the key feature of the iRacer, its light weight. If speaking about the race car, it means almost all. The Westfield’s brainchild has got the body made of aluminum and plastics featuring a weight of 770 kg. However, if compared to a F1 car, the iRacer is much heavier because of its batteries. The last, Lithium-Iron-Phosphate one, has a capacity of 23kWh powering almost half an hour at full speed while the race. Too, drastically TOO little to be chosen! On the other hand, the developers emphasize the iRacer would be offered as a kit car, so the buyer should install a more powerful battery there as one wishes. The all-electric car is expected to run various powertrains up to the owner – it comes to Hybrid, all-electric and a petrol unit. The setup obtains two YASA-750 electric motors (each unit delivers around 132hp and producing 295 ft-lb) electronically speed-limited.  It means that the British race car could demonstrate a 0-60 time under 5 seconds and a limited top speed of 115mph (an unlimited result is expected to sky-scraper the 140mhp, a spooky figure). Much looking forward to the release!
